Joseph and Ju Hong: GBT Consultants for Church Engagement (CE), Korea

As Global Bible Translators (GBT or Wycliffe Korea) has the new Church Engagement team, Ju and Joseph are working with the new CE team members to develop ministry direction and programs to serve local churches and theological seminaries. They give thanks to God for the time they’ve had to reflect on the Mission of God and Mission of God’s People with the new Church Engagement team. The Hongs are also grateful for the growing reflection and sharing groups on the essence of the Church with the recently published book, ‘Resident But Alien: How The Early Church Grew’ (translated in Korean and edited by Joseph).  Please pray for Joseph as he prepares the missiology lecture for this fall semester at Handong Global University. Pray also for Ju that the participants of weekly Bible study led by her will reflect God's character in their life.

GBT 성경번역선교회의 교회동역팀이 새롭게 구성됨에 따라 홍 선교사 부부가 팀의 사역 방향과 교회 및 신학교들을 도울 프로그램 개발을 돕고 있습니다. GBT 교회동역팀과 함께 하나님의 선교와 하나님 백성의 선교를 묵상하며 사역 방향을 정하게 하심에 감사드리고, 홍 선교사가 편역한 책 ‘초대교회에 길을 묻다’를 교재로 여러 곳에서 나눔이 진행되며 교회의 본질에 대해 반추하게 하심을 감사드립니다. 9월부터 한동대 국제학생들을 위한 선교학 강의 준비가 잘 이뤄지도록, 함 선교사가 인도하는 주바라기 모임을 통해 참가자들 모두가 하나님의 성품을 더 닮게되도록 기도해주세요.

The Naskapi Bible Translating Project

Praise the Lord! By July 2020, the team helped the Naskapi Development Corporation (NDC) produce and print the book that contains all the Scripture translated into Naskapi so far. The Naskapi Bible Translating Project started by NDC as a core component of the Language and Culture sector in 1993. Since these humble beginnings, the translation team continued to make steady progress on this huge task. For several years in the 1990s and early 2000s. The focus was on the Sunday Lectionary readings for the Naskapi church that included parts of the Old Testament (Job, First & Second Samuel, First Kings, Joshua, Judges, Esther, and completed the Book of Genesis in 2013, Exodus in mid-2020), the Psalms (dedicated the entire book in 2019), the Epistles and the Gospels (Luke was completed and published in 2007) were translated each week. This present volume is an attempt to put all the available translated Naskapi Scriptures into one printed book. This has a total of 17,393 verses, or about 56% of the 31,102 verses of the Bible in Naskapi. Please continue to pray for the Naskapi team, the NDC and Naskapi church leadership as they consider what God would have them do going forward to bring this project to completion. Pray also for Bill and Norma Jean who lead all the First Nations projects with their whole hearts by God’s grace and wisdom.

나스카피 성경 번역 운동

번역팀의 헌신과 수고로 2020년 7월 현재까지 나스카피 부족어로 번역된 성경책들을 모두 수록한 한 권의 책으로 나스카피개발공사 (NDC) 가 드디어 발간하였습니다. 하나님을 찬송합니다! 나스카피 성경번역은 NDC가 1993년 언어문화 핵심 분야의 하나로 착수한 프로젝트였는데 이 작은 시도로 시작한 번역 프로젝트가 엄청난 규모의 사역으로 꾸준한 진전을 이루어 내었습니다. 1990년대와 2000년대 초반의 수 년 동안은 나스카피교회의 주일 예독서에 촛점을 맞추어, 구약의 일부 (욥기, 사무엘 상하, 열왕기상, 여호수아, 사사기, 에스더서를 착수하여 2013년에 창세기, 2020년 금년에 출애굽기 완역), 시편 (2019년 봉헌), 그리고 신약의 서신서들과 복음서 (누가복음 2007년에 완역) 를 매주 번역해 왔습니다. 그 동안 여러 권으로 나누어 발간했던 모든 번역본들을 이번에 한 권의 성경책으로 모아 신구약 전체 31,102절의 약 56%에 달하는 17,393 절이 수록되었습니다. 이 프로젝트를 통하여 하나님께서 이 부족을 위하여 이루실 역사를 숙고하는 번역팀과 NDC 그리고 나스카피 교회 지도자들이 되도록 계속 손모아주시고 원주민 성경번역 프로젝트들과 여러 조력자팀을 전심으로 인도하는 빌과 노르마진 선교사에게 하나님의 은혜와 지혜가 넘치도록 기도해주세요.

Online prayer broadcast sparks prayer: South Korea
Praise God that through his Word people are moved to pray. Global Bible Translators (GBT) in South Korea started a monthly Vision Pray conference broadcast on YouTube. This allows people to participate in prayer during the pandemic. The live broadcasts focus on prayer for specific language groups with no exposure to the gospel, and the teams translating God’s Word in those languages. The conference is a result of the desire to pray together by followers of GBT’s Instagram account where prayer updates and Scripture studies are regularly posted. Pray for wisdom for the team coordinating this initiative and for encouragement for the participants as they unite in prayer. Ask God to bless these social media efforts for His glory and praise.

기도의 불씨를 일으키는 온라인 기도방송: 한국

말씀을 통해 사람들이 기도하게 하심을 인하여 하나님을 찬양합니다. 한국의 성경번역선교회 (GBT, 위클리프 코리아) 가 유튜브로 매달 비전 기도회 생방송을 시작했는데 특별히 이번 대유행병 기간중 사람들이 온라인으로 기도에 동참할 수 있도록 마련한 사역입니다. 이 생방송은 보안지역의 특정 언어 그룹들과 그 부족어로 성경을 번역하는 팀들을 위한 기도에 중점을 둡니다.  이 비디오 컨퍼런스는 기도 업데이트와 성경 연구를 정기적으로 나누는 GBT 인스타 그램 회원들이 함께 기도하기를 원하여 시작된 것입니다.  이 기도회를 준비하고 인도하는 팀원들에게 지혜 주시기를, 또한 함께 참여하는 이들이 기도안에서 연합하므로 서로 격려 할 수 있도록, 이러한 쇼셜미디어를 통하여 하나님께 영광과 찬양을 올려드리는 귀한 노력들을 축복해 주시도록 기도해주세요. 

Taking out the bones first: Papua New Guinea 
“The work of translation consultants is like eating fish with many bones. To enjoy the fish, you need to carefully take out all the bones first,” said translation consultant Duncan Kasokason as he reflected on his work. “That is the same with checking Scriptures that are translated into the language. They need to be checked carefully so that the meaning is clear in the language. Translation consultants need concentration and commitment in their work.” Praise the Lord for the work of translation consultants. May he strengthen them with his joy. Praise the Lord that when the translation is accurate, clear and natural, people respond with understanding and commitment.

뼈를 먼저 발라내기: 파푸아 뉴기니

“번역 자문위원들의 일은 뼈가 많은 생선을 먹는 것과 같습니다. 생선을 맛있게 먹기 위해서는 먼저 모든 뼈를 조심스럽게 발라내야합니다.“ 라고 던컨 선교사는 자문위원으로서의 책무를 말합니다.“ 그것은 말로 번역된 성경을 점검하듯이 의미가 명확한지 주의깊게 살펴 볼 필요가 있고 자문위원들은 그 임무에 온전히 집중하고 헌신해야 합니다.” 번역 자문위원들의 귀한 사역을 인해 주님을 찬양합니다. 하나님의 기쁨으로 저들을 강하게 하셔서 번역이 정확, 명료하고 자연스러워 말씀을 받는 이들이 더욱 쉽게 이해하고 헌신으로 반응하게 되도록 주를 찬송합니다.
