Korean Kairos Course: GTA (Greater Toronto Area)

The Korean Kairos course (GTA area) will be held at The Young Nak Church of Toronto. It runs from September 19 to November 7, every Tuesday evening and one full day on Saturday, October 28. Please pray that many people will be able to join and that, as a result, participants and their churches will be challenged to live missional lives. Pray too that the mission mobilization movement will continue through the use of the Kairos course in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). We covet your prayers for Gyoojun & Jinsook Lee and other facilitators that they might work well together. They desire to share the vision for Bible translation during the course.

오는 9월 19일부터 11월 7일까지 토론토영락교회에서 카이로스 코스가 열립니다. 매주 화요일 저녁 7:30~10시에 진행되며, 10월 28일(토)에는 오전 9시~오후 6시 까지 종일 코스로 진행됩니다.

Kingdom Friendship
Cree initiative: Kingfisher Lake, Oji-Cree

Last May, Alice was in Kingfisher Lake, Ontario, checking the Oji-Cree translation of John. It was an encouraging time of deepening friendships and hearing how God has been working in the community. Together Alice and her mentor reviewed 166 verses (John 1-4). One of the tasks of a translation consultant is asking questions about complicated verses, to see how well readers understand the Oji-Cree translation. The team spent extra time on John 4:38, in which Jesus tells his disciples, "I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor" (NIV). Henry, an Oji-Cree elder, said this teaching reminded him of Dr. William Winter, who started an Indigenous school for theology and ministry: "Our elders used to plant potatoes in a garden. After gathering them, they stored them under the house... The late William Winter was a gardener. He spread the Word of God to our people. Now today, his garden is growing. We have our own indigenous Bishop, many priests, lay leaders: all of that, carrying on his message from the Word of God. He planted, and we gather from his labor  Please pray the team will be able to publish their digital and Story Collections, and the Oji-Cree Prayer Book. Please continue to pray for the Scott family as they are in the process of applying to Wycliffe to continue helping with the Oji-Cree Bible translation part-time. Continue to pray for each of the translators and for our continued growth as a team.

Staff transitions and needs in the Alliance: Global

Pray for the Asia-Pacific Area team of the Wycliffe Global Alliance. The team is grateful for dedicated staff who work in various domains. They have bidden farewell to a few of the area staff whose Alliance assignments came to an end. They are starting with the onboarding process of Nicky Chong who will begin his role as Area director in January 2024. Nicky has extensive experience in global leadership and Bible translation ministry. Pray for the Lord’s continued blessings of insight and understanding as he interacts closely with Alliance organizations in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. Ask the Lord for strength and protection for Nicky, his wife Soak Wan, and adult children Micah and Sophie, as they prepare to transition to this new role. Ask God for a smooth transition and for guidance for the team’s continued ministry in this part of the world. Alliance leaders also anticipate the addition of staff to the Europe Area, and hope to find additional staff for the Communications team. Pray that the people God has chosen for these roles will become available at the right time.

Pray for leader’s study leave: Global, Israel

Jerusalem Seminary’s president-elect, Baruch Kvasnica, is in the United States with his family for a board-approved study leave to complete his doctoral dissertation. During his absence, Woody McLendon, new executive vice president, is providing leadership support to the team and the seminary. Pray for God’s sustaining strength for Baruch as he completes his dissertation; for Woody as he leads in Baruch’s absence; and for the team to continue to serve effectively to allow the seminary to continue offering quality biblical and Hebrew language courses in the context of the land of the Bible for translators, consultants and others.

Pray that the IT interns who recently completed the Africa Congo-Basin IT Cohort, training supported by JAARS, will serve their organizations’ Bible translation work effectively.

Pray for wisdom and perseverance for our Scripture website partner as it conducts workshops worldwide, teaching attendees to build websites that provide access to Scripture. 

Missionaries frequently come to JAARS during their furloughs. Pray for God’s provision of patience, rest, and adjustment during their transition.
