한인 선교사 사역 소식 및 기도 제목

최근 몇 년간 거의 천 개 가까운 언어에 새로운 성경번역 프로젝트가 시작되었습니다. 이 일에는 현지의 성경번역 단체들과 교단의 성경번역사역 부서 등에서 적극적으로 나선 결과였습니다. 그러나 이 일이 진정한 성경번역 운동의 진전을 이루기 위해서는 많은 훈련과 기술 및 행정 지원이 절실하다고 합니다. 위클리프 캐나다와 성경번역선교사 훈련기관인 캔아이엘의 역할이 정말 중요하고 전략적임을 다시 한번 확인할 수 있는 대목이었습니다. 

성경번역에서 AI 활용과 TBTA나  Adapt IT와 같은 컴퓨터의 도움을 받은 성경번역 방법들이 많은 진보를 이루고 있고, 이것을 사역 현장에 알맞게 적용하는 일과 함께 성육신적 선교와 변혁이 함께 일어나도록 하는 일이 절실하게 필요한 때입니다. 이런 맥락에서 TBTA나 AI와 같은 프로그ㅡ램을 통해 생성된 초벌 번역을 직접 번역본으로 사용하기보다는 현지인성경번역사역자들이 해나가는 번역작업에 좋은 참고자료로 쓰는 것이 훨씬 더 효과적이고 질높은 성경번역을 이뤄낼 수 있다고 하는 점이 매우 시사적입니다. 

이 외에도 젊은이들을 동원하기 위한 위클리프 태국의 자체 및 연합 사역을 통한 동원사역과, 소수민족 성경번역 사역 때 이들의 정신적 필요를 보듬어줄 필요 등 각국 성경번역 단체의 나눔이 있었습니다. 유대인 그리스도인들 (메시아닉 쥬s)과 세계 현지인성경번역사역자들을 훈련시켜 특히 구약 성경번역에 공헌하고 있는 예루살렘 신학교 사역자들과의 만남도 귀했습니다. (특히, 이곳에 가기 전 틴데인 다문화 센터에서 열렸던 컨퍼런스에서 팔레스타인 난민 여성 그리스도인들을 대변하는 사역에 대해 들었는데, 같은 지역의 소수인 유대인(출신) 그리스도인들의 생각도 함께 들을 수 있어서 감사했습니다.) 

위의 컨퍼런스 외에도 위클리프 태국 대표 타라왓 선교사 방콕 위클리프 기도팀 리더들과 만나, 태국 내 프로젝트들의 현황과 기도사역에 대해 나누고, 앞으로 더 교제하기로 한 것도 큰 수확이었습니다. 

In Bible translation, the utilization of AI and computer-assisted translation methods, such as TBTA or Adapt IT, has made significant strides. It is now urgently necessary to apply these principles appropriately in the field, while ensuring that incarnational mission and transformation occur simultaneously. In this context, it is highly significant that using draft translations generated by programs like TBTA or AI as direct translations is far less effective than employing them as valuable reference materials for the translation work carried out by local Bible translation workers. This approach yields much higher-quality Bible translations. 

Additionally, there were shared insights from Bible translation organizations worldwide, including mobilization efforts through Wycliffe Thailand's own and collaborative ministries to engage young people, as well as the need to address the spiritual needs of ethnic minorities during their Bible translation work. The meeting with Jerusalem Seminary workers, who train Jewish Christians (Messianic Jews) and local Bible translation workers worldwide, was also valuable, particularly in contributing to the translation of the Old Testament. (I was especially grateful to hear perspectives from Messianic Jews [Jewish Christians], a minority in the same region, alongside the ministry representing Palestinian refugee women Christians discussed at the conference held at the Tindale Multicultural Center before coming here.) 

Beyond the conference, meeting with Missionary Tharawat, Wycliffe Thailand's Director, and the leaders of the Bangkok Wycliffe Prayer Teams to discuss the status of projects within Thailand and prayer ministry, and agreeing to deepen fellowship going forward, was also a significant gain. 

10/25일 중국인 복음주의 교단의 선교주간 행사에서 부쓰를 설치하고 커피 시음 행사를 통해 성경번역 선교를 알리는 시간을 가졌습니다. 특히 커피 바리스타이신 우리는교회 최경진 목사님의 도움으로 치앙마이와 페루에서 가져온 원두커피를 갈아 드립한 커피를 가지고, 부쓰 방문자들에게 시음 및 이 지역들에서 진행 중인 성경번역 선교 사역들에 대해 나눴습니다. 

많은 분들이 참여해주시고, 맛있는 커피 시음과 그 지역에서 이뤄지는 사역들에 대해 듣고 비전을 나누는 시간을 가졌습니다. 젊은 청년들로부터 시니어들까지, 사역자들과 성도님들이 다 함께 방문하여 좋은 나눔의 시간이 되었고, 12명의 관심자들이 기도와 재정으로 동역하기로 했습니다. 후속조처가 잘 이뤄지고 귀한 동역이 왕성하게 일어나도록 기도해 주세요. 많은 사역이 이뤄지는 바쁜 일정 중에도 도와주신 최 목사님께 다시 한번 심심한 감사의 말씀을 드립니다!

On October 25th, during the Chinese Evangelical Church's Mission Week event, we set up a booth and held a coffee tasting session to raise awareness about Bible translation missions. With the help of Pastor Choi Kyung-jin of We Are Church, who is a coffee barista, we ground and brewed coffee beans brought from Chiang Mai and Peru. We offered tastings to booth visitors and shared about the ongoing Bible translation missions in those regions.

Many people participated, enjoying delicious coffee tastings and hearing about the missions taking place in those areas, sharing in the vision. From young adults to seniors, ministers and church members all visited together, making it a wonderful time of sharing. Twelve interested individuals committed to partner through prayer and financial support. Please pray that follow-up actions proceed well and that this precious partnership flourishes. We extend our heartfelt thanks once again to Pastor Choi for his help amidst his busy schedule filled with many ministries!

지난 몇 년 동안 팬데믹을 거치고, 이후에 잘스의 조직 개편과 사역 내용의 변화가 많아, 당분간 기도제목을 임시로 여러 가지 사역분야를 반복해서 소개하는 것으로 대신 했었습니다. 이번 방문을 통해 이제 매 주 업데이트 되는 잘스의 기도제목 Prayer Focus로 다시 동역자들과 잘스를 위해 함께 기도할 예정입니다. 특히 이번 방문을 통해, 잘스의 향후 3년 태평양 지역 사역 강화와 조종사들의 비행 준비과 실행 및 기록을 돕는 포괄적 지원 프로그램인 '플라이트 스팬' 프로그램에 대해 알고 소개하게 되었습니다. 

1일 방문한 열린문교회 시니어 팀과 청소년 팀을 섬기며 여러 차례 잘스를 방문했던 이정은 자매님과 동행한 김이현 자매님, 전체 팀 리더 노재천 집사님 등과 귀한 교제의 시간을 가졌음에 감사드립니다. 또한 새롭게 사역을 시작한 미국의 한인교회 동원사역자 백성지 목사님과도 함께 만나 교제하고, 잘스의 부대표 크레이크 러셀과 회의를 통해 귀한 협력에 대해 나눔의 시간을 가졌습니다. 마침 목사님이 섬기시는 올랜도 엘드림 교회에 비행 훈련을 받은 청년들이 많아, 잘스를 소개하고 3개월 인턴십과 11개월 펠로우 프로그램 등을 소개할 예정입니다. 이 외에도 1일 방문 팀을 위한 육/해/공 운송 체험 프로그램인 Last Mile Challenge 도 잘스에서 잘 시행되고 있어서, 앞으로 방문 혹은 훈련 및 봉사 팀들에게 소개할 예정입니다. 

Over the past few years, following the pandemic and subsequent organizational restructuring and significant changes in ministry focus at JAARS, we temporarily replaced specific prayer requests with repeated introductions to various ministry areas. Through this visit, we plan to resume praying together with our prayer partners for JAARS with the weekly updated Prayer Focus of JAARS. Particularly through this visit, we learned about and introduced the ‘Flight Span’ program—a comprehensive support for pilots for their aviation prep/execution/report, and JAARS ministry focus for the upcoming three years, expanding and strengthening its ministries in the Pacific region.

We are also grateful for the precious fellowship time shared with Sister Lee Jung-eun, who has visited JALSS multiple times while serving the senior and youth teams of Open Door Church during their one-day visit. Additionally, we appreciate Sister Kim Yi-hyeon, who accompanied her, and our overall team leader, Deacon Jay Noh. We also met and shared fellowship with Rev. Sung-ji Baik, a mobilizer for Korea Church Relations with Wycliffe US, who has recently begun his ministry. We had a meeting with Craig Russell, the Vice President of JAARS, to share valuable cooperation. Since many young people trained in flight are members of Orlando Eldream Church, where Pastor Baek serves, we plan to introduce Jals and its programs, including the 3-month internship and 11-month fellowship. Additionally, Jals successfully runs the Last Mile Challenge, a land/sea/air transportation experience program for one-day visit teams, which we plan to introduce to future visiting, training, or volunteer teams.
