북부 와미* 여성센터 사역 Nothern Warmi * Sewing Centers
최근 이 사역 리더의 부인이 한 센터를 방문해서 지금껏 배워온 것에 대해 물었을 때, 한 젊은 여성이 자신있게 일어나 진심어린 말로 대답했습니다.
"우리 부모님들마저도, 저희에게 이런 가능성이 있음을 꿈도 꾸지 않았었는데, 읽고 쓰기와 재봉 기술을 배울 수 있게 해주신 하나님께 감사드립니다! 이 일이 가능하게 해주신 분들, 후원하시는 모든 분들께도 감사드려요!"
정말 우리가 왜 이일을 하는지 다시 한번 깨닫게 해주는 시간이었습니다. 아무도 관심을 가져주지 않는 이들에게, 하나님의 형상을 지닌 사람으로서의 존엄과, 삶의 소망과 변혁을 가져다 주기 때문입니다. 단순히 저들에게 기술만 가르치는 게 아니라, 더 밝은 미래를 열어주시는 사역입니다.

최근 몇 달 동안, 학생들의 재봉 기술이 향상되어 가족들의 생계를 돕고, 자존감을 높이게 된 것에 감사드립니다. 재봉 교실에서 학생들은, 자신들의 전통 의상 바느질과, 재단 기술을 배웠고, 집안에 필요한 가정용품도 만들었으며, 이제 자기 민족 전통의상 뿐만 아니라, 주류사회의 의상까지도 만들게 되었습니다. 심지어는 주어진 일들을 갈 수록 더 빠른 시간에 해내고 있습니다.
이 일을 통해 재정 수입을 늘릴 뿐만 아니라, 읽고 쓰는 능력을 배양해서 이 세상을 더 잘 이해하고 자신있게 소통하게 되었습니다. 말씀을 통해 그들의 신앙과 천국의 가치를 양성하며, 마음에 기쁨과 소망과 내적인 능력으로 충만하게 되었음도 물론입니다.

이번 학기에 30 명의 학생이 등록하여 수업 받게 되는 것이 목표인데, 꼭 달성되도록 기도해 주세요.
또한 리더의 부인이 센터를 돌며 돌보는 사역을 해야하는데, 몸이 좋지 않을 때도 무리해서 다니고 있습니다. 하나님께서 그녀에게 새힘과 능력으로 소성케 되도록, 건강과 평안을 주셔서 남편과 함께 계속해서 선한 사역을 이어가도록 기도해 주세요.
말씀을 배우는 젊은 여인들이 진리의 말씀에 깊게 뿌리내리고, 많은 이들에게 증인의 삶을 살도록, 가정과 공동체 안에 그리스도의 빛을 비추도록 기도해 주세요.
During a recent visit to one of the Northern Warmi* sewing centers, the team leader’s wife sat with the women and began asking them what they had learned so far. The atmosphere was calm and reflective as they began sharing their experiences.
Suddenly, a young girl stood up with confidence and spoke from her heart. She said, "We thank God for this opportunity that has allowed us to learn how to read, write, and sew. Our parents never even dreamed of such a possibility for us. We are truly grateful to all those who have made this center possible and continue to support it."
In that moment, we were reminded again why this work matters — because it brings dignity, hope, and transformation to lives that were once overlooked. God is using these centers not only to teach skills, but to open doors for a brighter future.
Praise God for the progress over the last few months as women learn skills to help contribute economically to family needs, and grow in confidence and self-worth. Here is a glimpse of what the women have learned:
- Sew the cultural dress.
- Cut the cloth for cultural dress.
- Make other household items.
- Started to learn about sewing for the wider community outside of their own Northern Warmi culture.
Learning sewing helps women create useful things and opens the door to earning an income. Learning to read and write empowers them to understand the world around them and communicate with confidence. And learning Bible stories nurtures their faith and values, filling their hearts with joy, hope, and inner strength. The women are learning so quickly that they are finishing tasks in less time than anticipated!
Please pray for the team leader’s wife, who faithfully travels with him on every visit, even when she is unwell. Ask the Lord to strengthen her body, renew her energy, and bless her with health and peace as she continues to serve alongside her husband.
Pray for the young girls who are learning Bible stories. May these truths take root in their hearts and become a powerful testimony to many others, shining the light of Christ in their families and communities.
Pray for the goal of having 30 registered pupils learn the skills to run a personal tailoring business.
