하나님의 은혜와 여러분의 기도 동역으로, 5월 중에 이루실 이야기' (TUS, The Unfinished Story) 와 첫걸음선교이야기를 은혜 중에 잘 마쳤습니다. 특히 미국 버지니아 주 리치몬드에 있는 주예수교회에서 TUS 를 섬기며, 주일 영어권 예배에서 하나님의 역사하심을 간증하며, 그 고백으로 빌립보교회를 격려하는 바울의 이야기로 말씀을 나눴습니다.
이뤄주시는 주님의 은혜를 알면서도, 믿음이 연약하여 매번 새로운 상황에 닥칠 때마다 흔들리고 걱정하고 의심하는 저희들에게, 그럴 때마다 또 새롭게 말씀해주시고, 보여주시고, 이뤄주시는 주님이십니다. 그런 바울의 고백들이 (예, 빌 1:6, 2:13, 3:12, 4:12-13) 주를 따라 그분의 약속의 말씀을 붙잡고 순종하며 나아가는 이들에게 하나님의 역사하심을 보여주시는 '여호와 이레' (창 22:14) 와 같음을 깨닫게 해주셨습니다.
이번에도 동일한 일이 있었습니다. 인도네시아에서 새롭게 시작하는 현지인 성경번역 사역자 양성 프로그램에 대한 재정 후원을 부탁받았는데, 정말 의미 있고 좋은 프로젝트이지만, 현재 경제상황이 좋지 않아 위클리프 캐나다에서는 더 이상 집중협력 프로젝트를 확장하는 것은 무리라는 결론이 내려졌습니다. 유일한 방법은 그 프로젝트를 후원하는 새로운 재정 후원자를 발굴하는 것이었습니다. 그렇게 회의 결론을 듣고 나서 숙소로 돌아온 뒤에 카톡으로 문자메시지를 받았습니다. 한 재정후원자 분께서 몇 차례 4~5만불을 드릴 의향이 있는데, 급히 재정 후원이 필요한 프로젝트를 알려달라는 것이었습니다. 위에 언급한 창세기 22:14절 말씀대로, "여호와의 산에서 준비되리라" (직역하면, 여호와의 산에서 보게 되리라) 였습니다.
Through God’s grace and your prayers, we were able to successfully complete the “TUS (The Unfinished Story)” and “Mission 101” in May. In particular, while serving with the TUS program at Lord Jesus Korean Church in Richmond, Virginia, Gyoojun was asked to share a message during the Sunday worship service for its English congregation. Gyoojun shared the story of Paul, who testified to God’s work in his life and ministries and encouraged the Philippian church with that testimony.
Even though we know of the Lord’s grace that brings things to completion through years of our own experiences, our faith is weak, and we waver, worry, and doubt whenever we are put into new situations. Yet, every time that happens, the Lord speaks to us anew, reveals Himself to us, and brings things to completion. Paul’s confessions (e.g., Phil. 1:6, 2:13, 3:12, 4:12-13) helped us realize that they are like “Jehovah Jireh” (Gen. 22:14), revealing God’s work to those who follow the Lord, hold fast to His promises, and move forward in obedience.
The same thing happened to us this time. Gyoojun was asked to seek financial support for a new local Bible translator training program starting in Indonesia. Although it is a truly meaningful and excellent project, Wycliffe Canada leadership concluded that, given the current economic situation, it would be unwise to expand our focused partnership projects any further. The only option was to find a new financial sponsor for that project. After hearing the meeting’s conclusion and returning to my homestay in Calgary, Gyoojun received a text message via KakaoTalk. One of the donors had expressed a willingness to donate $40,000 to $50,000 on several occasions and asked us to let him know of any projects in urgent need of financial support. Just as the verse from Genesis 22:14 mentioned above says, “It will be provided on the mountain of the Lord” (literally, “You will see it on the mountain of the Lord”).
이번 6월에는 이 선교사 부부의 소소고 교회인 토론토참소망교회에서와 위클리프 캐나다에 여러 모로 협력해 주시며 파트너 교회가 되려는 '우리는교회'에서 매 주 주일마다 TUS 와 첫걸음 선교이야기로 섬기게 됩니다. 이민자의 선교적 상황과 정체성을 깨닫고 삶으로 헌신하는 선교의 이야기를 써나가는 교회와 참가자들이 되도록 기도해 주세요.
6/15-18일에는 캘거리에서 위클리프 캐나다 교회 협력 팀이 사업 계획을 논의하며 팀웍을 다지는 시간을 갖습니다. 디아스포라교회 협력 사역이 전체 교회협력 사역에 기여하고 또 많은 도움을 주고받도록 기도해 주세요.

This June, we will be serving every Sunday at Toronto True Hope Church—Gyoojun & Jinsook’s home church—and at “We Are Church,” which is seeking to become a partner church by collaborating with Wycliffe Canada in various ways, through TUS and “Mission 101”. Please pray that the church and participants will come to understand the missionary context and identity of immigrants, and that they will write their own stories of mission through their lives.
From June 15–18, the Wycliffe Canada Church Engagement Team will gather in Calgary to discuss ministry plans and strengthen teamwork. Please pray that the Diaspora Church Engagement ministry will contribute to the overall church partnership ministry and that we may offer and receive much mutual support.
Please pray that the administrative procedures within Wycliffe Canada for financial support of the aforementioned Bible translation worker training program in Indonesia proceed smoothly, leading to a beautiful and fruitful partnership.
Gyoojun will visit Korea in late July with the Canadian preparation team to prepare for an internship exchange program in collaboration with the Korean Bible Translation Society (GBT). Please pray that all preparation procedures and mobilization efforts proceed smoothly.
