In Indonesia, several missionary organizations—including Kalditaya (Wycliffe Indonesia)—and the Bible translation departments of various denominations are participating in Bible translation efforts for the languages of ethnic minorities within the country. While the number of languages in need of Bible translation has decreased from approximately 380 in recent years to about 100 according to current statistics, Bible translation work has not yet begun in many of the languages for which translation commitments have been made. In many cases, this is due to a lack of funding and well-trained, qualified personnel.
In response, Kaltidaya has launched a project to train local Bible translators, and Wycliffe Canada has decided to support this “Kaltidaya Academy” project through prayer and donations. Currently, this is a donor-driven project running for one year; thereafter, collaboration may continue as one of Wycliffe Canada's Focus Projects. (Indonesia, like neighboring Papua New Guinea, has more than 700 languages. Of these, the complete Bible has been translated into 63 languages, the New Testament into 118, and portions of the Bible into 101; however, Bible translation is still needed for approximately 140 languages.) Please pray that this project, which trains high-quality ministry workers, will proceed smoothly and bear abundant fruit through our partnership.
