온타리오 북부에서 록키 산맥에 이르는 대평원에 거주하는 다섯 개 그룹의 크리 원주민 언어로 성경을 번역하는 일이 진행 중입니다.

이번 부활절 기간에 킹피셔레이크 (Kingfisher Lake)지역을 방문하여 Oji-Cree 원주민과 성경번역 사역을 진행 중이던 빌과 노마 진 선교사 부부가 감사한 소식을 전해 왔습니다. 

부활절 관련 성경구절을 번역했는데, 예배 시간에도 사용되고, 찬양대가 노래하고, 지역 라디오 방송으로도 여러 차례 번역된 말씀이 낭송되었습니다. 한인디아스포라 팀에서는, 오는 4/28일 온타리오 구엘프에서 열리게 될 크리 원주민 성경번역 사역자들(mother tongue translators)을 위한 워크샵에 여러 교회와 원주민 선교 관심자들을 초대하여 5개 크리 원주민 언어로 진행 중인 성경번역 사역에 대해 원주민 성경 번역 사역자들과 함께 하는 시간을 나누고자 합니다. 함께 기도해주시고, 동참해 주시면 감사하겠습니다.

Our Dear Partners,

We are on our second week with the new Oji-Cree Bible translation team in Kingfisher Lake. The daily routine has been varied, but we have been focusing

on "team checking" the scripture passages that they have committed to translate for the Sunday morning weekly readings at St. Matthew's Church in their community. The translation team is very engaged around the translation table as we discuss together the meaning of the passages and the overall place of the reading in God's message of love and salvation. Through the last days of Holy Week and into Easter Day, we were able to witness how eagerly the community is engaging with the scripture in their own language. The translated draft of the the scripture passages are prepared as printed handouts for the church services, along with being read aloud live from the community radio station several times over the weekend, sometimes as part of a program of live gospel music and hymn singing by the "senior" or "junior" choir.

It is humbling and such an encouragement to be here in this community where it seems that everywhere we go people are eager to know more about how much God loves them by reading it for themselves in the scriptures, and how new that message is felt now that it is in their mother tongue.

Over the weekend, Norma Jean also assisted them in designing an Easter worship banner for their church that featured the text of Matthew 28:6 "ᑳᐃᐧᐣ

ᐅᐦᐅᒫ ᐊᔮᓰᐣ, ᐋᔕ ᑭᐊᐧᓂᓑᑳ, ᑳᑭ ᐃᑭᑐᐦᐸᐣ." (He is not here, he is risen, just as he said.) 

Having the scriptures in a visual form in public places using art forms that they participate in planning and constructing is an important part of bringing the Word of God into the life and culture of the community.

It is a blessing to be here.
