A and M (children Isaac, Moses): director of Wycliffe Taiwan and a regional manager of a sensitive area, respectively  

A will be meeting with leaders of FCBH (Faith Comes By Hearing) on a partnership agreement in August. For those among the Dao people who can’t use handheld devices, Wycliffe Taiwan will prepare 400 units of MegaVoice* in addition to Proclaimers* that FCBH will also provide. M attended an overseas meeting on the translation issues for the minority people groups that her teams serve. She is thankful that business was conducted well and for good fellowship with co-workers whom she recently met who are involved in her ministries. M also taught a Korean language class for the young-adult group of a Taiwanese church who were going to Korea for a short-term mission. She was pleased that this group is so eager to learn and is passionate in preparing to go. Pray also for God’s wisdom on office administrators and a productive and healthy interaction with their two sons. (*MegaVoice and Proclaimer are digital audio-Bible players)

A 선교사는 8월중에 FCBH (Faith Comes By Hearing)의 리더들과 협력관계 협약을 할 예정입니다. 다우 족 가운데 핸드폰을 쓸 수 없는 사람들을 위해, FCBH에서 제공하는 '프로클레이머'와 함께, 위클리프 대만은 400 대의 '메가 보이스' (MegaVoice)를 공급할 예정입니다. M 선교사는, 지난 7월에 섬기고있는 팀들이 주로 사역하는 소수 민족들의 성경번역에 관련된 회의가 있어 해외 출장을 다녀 왔습니다. 직임을 잘 감당하고 관련된 사역자들을 만나 교제할 수 있어 감사했습니다. 또 한국으로 가는 대만 교회의 청년 단기팀에게 한글을 가르쳤습니다. 대만 청년들이 

열심으로 배우고 준비하는 모습은 도전이 되었습니다. 계속해서 M의 행정사역과  방학중인 두 아들과 함께 하는

Joseph and Ju Hong: GBT Consultants for Church Engagement, Korea (revised*)

Please ask for God’s grace and wisdom as Joseph is teaching on the Intercultural Communication in August and a missiology course in the coming fall semester. Pray also that God will continuously lead the publication process of the booklets on the Early Church between AD 100-300. Pray for the trainings with GBT (Camp Wycliffe) and other mission agencies (Life As Mission) so that participants will feel and embrace God’s heart for the world mission. Pray also for God’s protection over all the family members in different locations. (*corrected because a few errors were found in the content last week)

Silk Road Ascent (SRA): Bible translation in a sensitive area (Do not forward or post it anywhere online)

Training Institute: The final workshop of this fiscal year, a one-week course in how to advocate for multilingual education, is being held in August. Please pray that the participants will use this training to encourage the use and development of their languages, both within their own communities and also with government officials. In June, prayer was requested as the institute began to identify language communities which still have no language development or translation projects started. The staff expected it to be somewhat challenging to contact and connect with these unreached groups. In fact, it was exciting to see how God is opening doors to several communities. These were small connections, but they quickly grew into larger connections, and now people from five different language communities are interested and willing to start new translation projects in their languages! Please pray for God’s guidance and discernment on these new projects. Ask God to guide the staff as they plan the new one-year cycle of basic training beginning in January 2020. Praise God, another organization is willing to provide some funding for next year’s expenses.

실크 로드 프로젝트: 성경번역, 보안지역 (수신자 이외에 배포하거나 온라인상에 게시하지 말아주세요)

언어 훈련 연구소: 다중언어교육을 지지하는 방법에 관한 1주간의 과정인 이번 회계연도 마지막 워크숍이 8월에 열립니다. 참가자들이 자기네 언어 공동체에서나 정부 관계자들과 언어의 사용과 발전을 장려하기 위해 이 훈련이 활용되도록 기도해주세요. 지난 6월에 이 연구소가 아직 언어 개발이나 번역 프로젝트가 착수되지 않은 언어 부족들을 식별하면서 기도를 요청했습니다. 사역자들은 이러한 미전도 그룹들과 접촉하고 연결하는 것이 다소 어려울 것으로 생각했는데, 사실은, 하나님이 어떻게 여러 공동체의 문들을 열어주는지를 목도하는것은 정말 감동이었습니다. 처음엔 작은 연결이었지만, 빠르게 더 큰 연결고리로 확장되었고, 이제 5개의 서로 다른 언어 공동체 출신의 사람들이 자기네 부족어로 새로운 번역 프로젝트를 시작하기를 요청하고 있습니다! 이 새로운 프로젝트들에 대한 하나님의 인도하심과 분별을 위해, 내년 1월부터 시작되는 새로운 기초훈련의 1년 주기를 계획할 때 하나님이 인도해 주시기를 기도해주세요. 할렐루야, 다른 단체가 기꺼이 내년 예산의 일부를 재정 후원하기로 했습니다.

Was Zechariah trying to trick people?: Papua New Guinea

Several months after the Ranmo translation team had completed the first draft of Luke 1, they asked a local translator to translate the text back into English. This is called a back translation and is done by someone who did not do the original translation. When he did this, he concluded that Zachariah was trying to trick people with his hand motions. This was not the meaning the team intended to communicate. The input gave the Papua New Guinea translators the opportunity to see how other Ranmo speakers would understand the passage. It allowed the team to make some minor changes in the wording that resulted in a major difference in people’s interpretation of the text.

사가랴가 사람들을 속이려 했을까요? : 파푸아뉴기니

란모 부족어로 누가복음 1장의 초벌 번역이 끝난 몇 달 후 번역팀은 한 원어민 번역자에게 이 부분을 영어로 다시 번역해 달라고 요청했습니다. 이는 역번역이라 불리는 작업으로 초벌 번역에 참여하지 않은 번역자에 의해 이루어집니다. 그는 이 작업을 하다가 세례 요한의 아버지 사가랴가 손짓으로 사람들을 속이려 했다고 결론을 내렸는데 이는 번역팀이 전혀 의도하지 않은 결과였습니다. 이를 계기로 번역팀은 다른 란모 사람들이 이 본문을 어떻게 이해하는지 알아보는 기회를 갖게 되었고 문구를 조금 바꾸어 번역함으로써 사람들이 본문을 제대로 이해하도록 하는 큰 변화를 이루어냈습니다.
