In Other Words: Wycliffe Canada Newsletter, Korean Edition

The Korean Diaspora team is thankful for our volunteers who translated and edited the first issue of In Other Words into Korean. This is Wycliffe Canada’s new quarterly newsletter, and we will focus on the four key pillars of our work in the minority language groups worldwide for each edition in turn: Bible translation, literacy, capacity building, and Scripture use. We published the web version last week. Please pray that Wycliffe Canada will be able to continuously communicate with our partners about current breakthroughs, needs, and challenges in Bible translation and inspire them to begin, or continue, to partner with us as God leads.

Cree initiative: Northern Translation Brief

Since January, Bill has conducted a weekly Virtual Naskapi Community Language Course, during which the participants practice Naskapi reading and writing. One of the retired Naskapi school teachers and another retired Naskapi translator have agreed to review the draft copies of the Scriptures by hand at home. Also, one of the retired senior translators, Silas, agreed to review chapters of Exodus in order to finish this book for publication. Silas also helped out to produce audio recordings of chapters from the Naskapi Book of Psalms. Praise the Lord! Over the past several weeks, they have completed the recording of Psalms 1 through 17. Please continue to pray for dedicated Naskapi workers, especially Silas’ extraordinary ways to achieve. Pray also for The Jancewicz family’s travel mercy to the USA to attend Bill’s mother Martha’s memorial service.

크리 원주민 성경 번역 운동: 나스카피 사역 업데이트

빌 선교사는 지난 1월부터 매주 나스카피 언어 강좌를 온라인으로 진행중인데 이를 통해 참가자들은 자기네 모어로 읽기및 쓰기를 습득합니다. 은퇴한 교사 한 명과 은퇴한 모어 번역가가 집에서 수작업으로 초벌 번역 점검을 자원하여 돕기로 하였습니다. 또한 은퇴한 노인 번역가 실라스는 출판을 앞둔 출애굽기의 점검을 돕기로 했습니다. 뿐만아니라 실라스는 나스카피 시편 녹음도 돕기로 했고 지난 몇 주 동안의 수고로 시편 1-17편까지 녹음을 마쳤습니다. 할렐루아! 실라스의 열정적인 헌신에 감사드리며 헌신적인 원주민 일꾼들을 위하여, 빌 선교사 가정이 모친의 추도예배에 참석하기 위해 미국을 다녀오는데 여행중 안전을 위하여 기도해 주세요.

Translated Scripture brings light: Cameroon and Canada
Wycliffe Canada held an online Scripture celebration on 27 February.  One of the program’s featured projects was the Bambalang New Testament finished in Cameroon last year. Emmanuel, a man from a Cameroonian church, had attended the festivities celebrating the New Testament. As he heard the Word, Emmanuel says, a light turned on in his heart. “I thought I knew Scripture,” he said, “but now that I have seen it in my language, I realize how much I do not know. I have been empty. I have been in darkness.” He gave his life to Christ. Now he is a Scripture promoter in his church and community. Since he has encountered the light, he helps others engage with Scripture through their language, Bambalang. Thank God for Wycliffe Canada’s involvement with this New Testament, through the provision of staff, as well as prayer and financial support. Pray that this New Testament will impact the lives of many more people and churches. 

번역된 성경이 가져다준 빛: 카메룬과 캐나다

위클리프캐나다가 지난 2 월 온라인으로 성경 번역 축하 행사를 가졌는데, 이날의 주요 프로젝트중 하나는 작년에 카메룬에서 완역된 밤발랑 신약 성경입니다. 카메룬 교회의 엠마누엘은 성경 봉헌식에 참석하여 하나님의 말씀을 들었을 때 자기 마음에 불이 켜졌다고 간증했습니다. "나는 성경을 안다고 생각했었는데 우리 말로된 성경을 보고 나서야 내가 얼마나 무지하였던지를 깨달았습니다. 제 속은 텅비어 있었고 어둠 속이었습니다.” 임마누엘은 헌신자가 되었고, 성경의 옹호자로서 교회와 공동체를 섬기며 자신이 만난 그 빛을 다른 사람들도 자기네 모어를 통해 성경 활용에 참여하도록 돕고 있습니다. 기도와 재정 후원뿐 아니라 인적 자원을 통해서 밤발랑 신약에 참여한 위클리프캐나다에 감사드립니다. 더 많은 사람들의 삶과 교회에 영향을 미칠 수 있도록 기도해 주세요.

Engaging churches in Bible translation: Brazil          
JMM is a denominational mission organization in Brazil, which relates to nearly 12,000 churches in the country. The organization is in constant contact with the churches, promoting missions work. JMM representatives portray the work of Bible Translation as an essential part of reaching out to those unreached with the gospel. JMM has been committed since 2016 to work within the Wycliffe Global Alliance to promote Bible translation. Pray for JMM as they contribute to Bible translation through: Prayer, Mobilization of missionaries to come alongside indigenous language communities in translation of oral Bible stories, and Planting churches that will join the Bible translation effort.
